This summer, I have been working on a new book. I have written three books that explore pop culture and social history. Since I am not old enough, and do not have enough monumental memories to have them documented, I stick to what I love: social history, lifestyle, and fashion. My first book published by Assouline called “In the Spirit of the Hamptons” needs an upgrade. When I was 30, I wrote a book exploring a place I love, now I am writing a book about a place where I love to live. How do you start? You compile images, FIRST. Then, tell the story.
What do lemon aid and charity have in common? When it comes to kiddies, they are putting their money where their mouth is. Children across the Hamptons are donating their time and the proceeds from their lemon aid stands to support the Robinhood Foundation, which targets poverty in New York City. At Bridgehampton Polo last Saturday, children raised over $1800 in less than two hours. That’s something to be proud of.
So, its local day and this year I have the honor of riding Rush Chairman Bill. I have been looking forward to this horse show all year. The Sunday before the Hampton Classic, is a fun day where only locals can ride. I was able to ride in the flat equitation class, and got 4th place. Over fences in the 2′6 equitation class, I (rather Bill for he did all the work) got a 4th place over fences and a 10th place. I am so excited to be at the Hampton Classic. It is a huge honor, and it was such a BLAST!
Woooooooooo can you believe I did so well. I can’t!!!!
Yup, it’s horse show season. Unlike the other uber rich and extremely talented riders, I have two good things going for me. I am athletic, and I leased an incredible horse. Yes, I am so lucky to be able to ride Mary Riva’s horse, RUSH CHAIRMAN BILL.
I am so lucky to have an amazing trainer Babi Herrara. I always look forward to this time of year. I started riding at 26, and once I put my bum in the saddle, I never took it out. Last Saturday, I raced over to Bobby Ginsberg’s farm and hopped on “Bill” and into the flat class( no jumps) which was a disaster. I thought I heard, ‘walk’, when they said, ‘trot.’ I then learned my course, and went into the pre-adult 2′6 equitation class. The jumps are low, but my heart races fast. “Will I crash this horse I have only ridden a couple of times? Will he get his lead changes if I don’t ask correctly? Will I make it down the line in the right amount of strides without PULLING?” Are just some of the questions that race through my head. I finished my three courses and had a lot of complaints on my own performance. I hung out with my little Jack Russel, Bear, till the announcer said my name. Again, something is wrong with my hearing, I heard the announcement for reserve champion, and I gave a high five to the rider who I thought rocked the division. She then looked at me after our hands met, and said, “Congrats, YOU were CHAMPION.”
WOOOOOOOOO
Thank you North Fork Classic, Babi Herrara, Mary Rivas, and to my kiddies for believing in me.
I will never forget the inception of Bridgehampton Polo. Neil Hirsch and Peter Brant decided to bring polo to the Hamptons, and Mercedes Benz was going to be the underwriting sponsor. It was a rainy day, but these polo playing, financial wizards knew they could bring the incredible sport to the Hamptons. I held my first charity event there for Hale House. At the time the charity was committed to helping infants afflicted with HIV. Dennis Hopper, Stephanie Seymour, Peter Brant, Gilles Bensimon, Neil Hirsch, Julian Schnabel and I, all went to the rainy polo field and auctioned off autographed jeans while Neil and Peter and their pro polo players played polo.
Today, the polo matches are not only fun to watch, the tent is know for its huge party scene. For me, polo is about the altheticism of the horse and the agility of the rider. And, if you can help a charity by using the sport as a vehicle, go for it. It’s fun to be apart of the process, by coming out to stomp the divots. My girls love that.
What Is Polo?
A polo match lasts about 2 hours and is divided into 6 timed periods called chukkers. The object of the game is to hit the ball down the field and through the goal posts to score. During half time, spectators go onto the field in a social tradition called divot stomping.
On Tuesday, Real Housewives of New York City star Kelly Killoren Bensimon was spotted retrieving her car at a downtown parking garage in a picture-worthy ensemble. Outfitted in a loose-fitting white blouse, a tartan skirt and a pair of TOMS shoes, Bensimon could have rolled straight off a photoshoot. It’s nice to see a celebrity wearing those shoes: For each pair purchased,TOMS donates a pair of new shoes to a child in need.
It’s that time of year where children are gearing up to go to school. Macy’s, Nickelodeon, and Dora the Explorer (who turned 10 this year) have created an innovative idea to have celebs like Eva Longoria, LeBron James, and many other big names to create their own backpack to support the Children’s Defense Fund. Some burgeoning american kindergartners are not mentally prepared, nor do they have the proper back to school necessities to get started on the right foot. There is also a growing number of children who are not reading at proper reading levels, and end up dropping out of school before graduating. Kelly Rutherford, Wendy Williams, Uma Thurman, and I all came out to support children in need. Every child deserves the right to be educated, to have the right tools to dream big, and do what they love. Check out Celebbuzz to see the backpacks.

New York City had a killer party where I walked the red carpet with Richie Rich, and was followed by Keisha. She couldn’t have been nicer, or prettier! I love her rock n’ roll, wild girl attitude. Her attitude is cool, her lyrics are insightful and the night was filled with celebs. Keisha and G Shock definitely run with the right crowd. I even got a cool purple mens G Shock. Yes I love mens watches, and I like G Shock for the price is right and it’s wellmade and super trendy. You can have it all. For now, the G shock will replace my gold Rolex while it’s in the shop after my surfing accident. UhOh!
