Behind the Scenes Photo Shoot with Seth Sabal

The only bad thing about living in New York City is that you can’t see the stars at night. I love New York. There is nothing more magnetic than the city at night. From a bird’s eye view it seems as though the city is one big shimmering celebration; whether it’s the windows of an office late at night, the headlights of a taxi, or the street lamps on a tree-lined street, it becomes understood why this is the city that never sleeps. Streets are filled with people from all walks of life. People sit and wait for friends while others stroll and sip their lattes, some walk overcome by emotion either laughing or crying about someone or something. And, there is always that one person who catches your eye and for whatever reason makes you stop and think about the more important things in life. That’s my New York. Family, friends, fun, music, movies, theatres, the Rangers, the Knicks, the Yankees, the Jets, dive bars, night clubs, amazing restaurants, unbelievable schools, luxurious hotels, and more baby strollers packed into one island that you could ever imagine.
But, you can’t see the stars at night.
I just got the chance to spend three days with my kiddies in the Hamptons while observing Martin Luther King day. Whether it was riding a bike, cleaning the car, moving their furniture or just watching them eat popcorn in bed after they took a shower, I realized that no you can’t see the stars in New York, but I can see the future in my daughter’s eyes.
Thank you Mr. King for paving the way so that every child is given the opportunity to make a difference.
Whatever it takes, I will do for my girls. I will do everything in my power to help them be the best they can be.
In the aftermath of the devastation Haiti currently faces, we need to learn from this tragedy and create awareness. Always donate to the Red Cross. They need you everyday, not just in crisis.
Let’s all see the possibilities and show the rest of the world who Americans really are. We protect and serve.
In lieu of must haves:
I know this sounds strange, but part of my job is to have updated photos of myself. I called my good friend Seth Sebal who has taken so many amazing pictures of me in the past, and asked him if he’d take some new ones to have handy for my new website, promotional events, and other similar things. Quinn did an amazing job with my makeup – the look was beautiful and my face felt as though I had no makeup on at all! My hairdresser Danielle worked her magic and then was off to her next client, Mariah Carey… no biggie. We started with a black tank for simple headshots. I grabbed Seth’s fedora to play around and my simple headshots were spiced up in no time! So much fun!! I then moved into a jean jacket from Gap’s 1969 line to continue with the relaxed look, then cranked up the eye shadow and hair volume for a smokin’ hot “Chicagoesque” feel for the rest of the shoot. I hope you like them! Here’s a behind the scenes picture…

And if that’s not enough, today is my daughter’s first swim meet. We are all sooo excited for her. She’s swimming 50’s. Gooo, Sea!!!!

Must Haves and Wish List
I can’t believe we are in double digits. My girls and I are ready and looking forward to a lot of changes this year. We all want to read a lot more. Bravo actually surprised me and gave me a Kindle for Christmas, so I am putting all of our favorite classics and new reading discoveries on it. Now they can read aloud to me in the car as I drive back and forth from the beach, without the hassle of lugging around tons of books! I also took the girls to the MOMA over their break to see the Tim Burton exhibit. We are going to visit a lot of museums this year, as I believe that visual integrity is just as important as anything else.
Let’s back track. Christmas was a lot of fun Sea, Teddy, and I celebrated Christmas with my parents in East Hampton. We were having such a good time that I forgot to make their special pies! Thank goodness for the delicious pumpkin pies Whole Foods made for me to grab as the perfect back up plan! And FYI, their chicken wings to go are amazing!!

What an honor! Did you see the spread in PEOPLE magazine? I was one of the 25 Most Influential People of ‘09.
They picked the Housewives franchise and chose me for New York. I even wore the Miss America sash! It was such a blast to be with those ladies for the shoot.

I was also featured in US Weekly for my diet. Everyone knows I hate the word “diet.” I normally work out 30 minutes everyday to keep my mind and body sound. Working out not only keeps you fit, but also it brings oxygen to your blood and releases toxins so you feel better. Eat well, live well.
For New Year’s Eve, I was asked to host a New Year’s Eve party at Gustavino’s. I was freaking out about what to wear so I went to my friend Lorraine Kirke’s shop Geminola to find the perfect New Year’s Eve dress. I love vintage inspired gowns, and I wanted something festive yet something unusual, so I decided on a corset with a bow wrapped around my waist and a tulle skirt. I even wore flats so it would be easier for me to move around and let’s be honest, have a good time with no pain! What girl really loves to endure the pain of heels?
As for this week, Housewives is in postproduction, so I am working on updating my website, and working out in a different way. Yesterday I went to Jivamuti for a yoga class. I didn’t know my body could move like that, and today I am going to Equinox for the first time. I even took the subway yesterday to save time picking up my kids. I realized I was wasting so much time and money sitting in a car. In 10 minutes I was uptown picking up my kids. No traffic, no waiting!
2010 is all about ease and moving into a new direction.
We all have so many amazing gifts, talents, so much to be grateful for and so much to explore. I can’t wait to share it all with you: the good, bad, and the ugly. Mistakes help us learn.
Here’s to ‘10!!
