Blue in Boca

Blue in Boca

These days I’ve really been feeling blue. Not the kind of blue that requires a Prozac prescription – I’m talking about powder blue. It’s the color of a cloudless morning in Montana. Delicate and feminine but also regal and chic, powder blue is the perfect hue for casual resortwear. While packing for our family vacation to Boca, I loaded up the suitcase with my baby blues. Whether it’s in the form of a sheer dress coverup from Melissa Odabash, a polo shirt or a Birkin, it’s all about the blues.

Boca, baby

Boca, baby

I love New York, but I also love getting out of the city. Especially when it snows on the first day of Spring – I mean, what is that even about? Happily, I was headed down to spend some family and relaxation time in Boca. It was great to spend time with my parents and my kids. It’s not often we all are able to get together and hang out. I love being both a kid and a mom. Dressing for the beach is one of my favorite things. I love bikinis, coverups, floral jumpsuits. I think I was a mermaid in a past life. The key for effortless vacation style is keeping everything light and fun: loose tunic cuts for airy silhouettes, bright swimwear for sexy tan lines, and simple tops you can throw into your beach bag. More pictures from my travel diary below.

Shopping for a boyfriend

Shopping for a boyfriend

Ladies! I’ve been hitting the town shopping for boyfriends. There are so many great ones to be had recently, and they all come with killer style. No I’m not talking about men – I’m talking about the new boyfriend jean. While your previous BF was boxy, boyish and careless like a Sunday morning, this year’s boyfriend has gone emo. They’re skinny, ripped, tie-dyed and full of attitude. This year’s jeans can be worn preppy with a chic button down shirt, sexy with a crop top or trendy with denim on denim combo. Hit the gym, ladies, these boys are unforgiving.

Must Have: Lovely Loafers

Must Have: Lovely Loafers

I love a good loafer. Yes, everyone and their mother is running around in sneakers now, and while I’ll definitely agree it’s a cool, of-the-moment look, there’s nothing that can compare to the timeless chic of Ms. Penny. When you’re not feeling heels, boots are too cumbersome and the weather isn’t yet right for sandals, that’s where the versatile loafer steps in. Wear them with jeans for a smart casual look that can take you from uptown Museum visits to downtown SoHo strolls. I prefer my loafers in classic stylings like these from Bally Swiss, though there are so many fun updates in trendy colors and patterns this season. Still, the best ones look like you’ve swiped them from your dad’s closet.

Totally Tess Part Deux

Totally Tess Part Deux

Knitwear is big for Spring. What I love about Tess Giberson is her use of inventive knits and unexpected patterns. Take, for example, this knit sweater with its mesh sleeves and ribbed cuffs. Just that little flash of arm underneath sheer fabric is super cool. Paired with Tess’s take on sweatpants for Spring, it’s a streetwear-influenced look that elevates comfy to chic.
